How Nano Influenced My Pricing Strategy Change

The PMU industry is constantly evolving, and one thing I’ve learned is that there is no single “right” way to run a business. We have to create systems that support our artistry, our clients, and the experience we want to provide.
For years, cosmetic tattooing followed the standard model of an initial appointment with a complimentary 6-week touch-up. I tried this early in my microblading years, and I quickly realized it didn’t align with the level of artistry and care I wanted to provide. The complimentary touch-up model often became rushed, lacked proper consultation, and didn’t allow the time needed to truly evaluate healed results and create a thoughtful finishing plan.
A touch-up is not just a few small adjustments—it’s a revisit. It requires reassessing healed results, discussing color, shape, and goals, and creating the next phase of the journey. That deserves time, intention, and artistry.
After years of refining my process, I’ve created a structure that better supports both my clients and my business:
✨ Initial Session — set price (aftercare included)✨ Revisit Session (3–6 months) — set price (aftercare included)✨ Optional Refinements or Enhancements — $150/hour (3–12 months)
Aftercare kits for optional refinements will be available for purchase when needed, as the cost of supplies, products, and materials continues to increase within the PMU industry.
Let’s talk nano…
Nano is a beautiful and highly technical skill that I believe every PMU artist should understand and master. However, through my experience, I’ve learned that it is not always the best choice for every client. Results depend on many factors, including hair pattern, skin type, skin condition, and overall healing.
While I love nano and recognize its value, my personal artistry connects more deeply with soft shading. I believe in choosing the technique that best serves the individual—not simply offering a technique because it’s trending.
I considered removing nano from my menu completely, but I understand that it can be the right option for certain clients. Moving forward, it will be offered intentionally, with a clear understanding of the process, maintenance, and any necessary refinements.
